Course Description Project management is not just for construction engineers and military logistics experts anymore. Today, in addition to the regular duties of the jobs of supervisors and managers, they are often expected to take on extra assignments, and to get that additional job done well, done under budget, and done on time. This course is intended to make you familiar with the most common terms and practices in terms of working on projects. This one-day workshop will help you teach participants how to: • Describe what is meant by a project • Explain what project management means • Identify benefits of projects • Identify the phases of a project’s life cycle • Sell ideas and make presentations related to pitching a project • Prioritize projects • Begin conceptualizing a project, including goals and vision statements • Use project planning tools • Contribute to creating a Statement of Work Course Overview Defining Projects and Project Management In this session, you will explore the definition of what a project is and what project management means. The Role of a Project Manager Next, A project manager has a clearly defined role, and it is very important to determine what they do or do not do. (In small project teams or small companies, it is possible that the project manager will fulfill other roles as well.) In this session, you will explore what it means to be a project manager and how to clarify expectations of that role.   Aspects of a Project Sometimes people who never intended to lead projects suddenly find themselves doing this at the request of their manager. In this session, you will use a real-life example of a project, which is the best way to demonstrate the application and capability of the tools and techniques that will be discussed during the workshop. Actual work situations add to the value of the training. Personal Benefits of Project Work While the organization will undoubtedly benefit from the project work that you do, your own skills and expertise will also grow with each project that you work on, no matter what your role is. In this session, you will learn about the benefits of working on projects. You will also look at strategies for adding projects to your current workload. A Project’s Life Cycle In this session, you will learn about the life cycle of a project and the stages that are involved from beginning to end, or conception to termination.
